How to Choose Workwear Fabric

For medium and large workwear distributors supplying the USA and Europe.

Fabric is the decision that moves both the price and the complaint rate. Pick it for the work, then lock the GSM range on the order so the next lot does not drift.

Cloths we actually sew

  • Polycotton twill, about 240 GSM on the standard coverall AT-101 and the cargo trouser AT-401. A daily industrial cloth.
  • Cotton drill, about 280 GSM on AT-102, when the crew kneels and you want knee pockets.
  • Bonded softshell on AT-302 for wind and light rain. It is not a taped storm shell.
  • Polyester mesh or solid for hi-vis vests. Light, not a jacket.
  • Treated cotton for the FR coverall and shirt. A named FR standard is confirmed before production. It is not assumed.

How to choose

Warm sites and back-of-house work can take the lighter trouser, about 180 GSM. Workshops that abrade a seat want the doubled seat on the cargo trouser more than they want a fashion weight. Rain is a coated program, not a softshell with a hopeful description.

Send a swatch if the color has to match a program you already own. Approving color under a warm lamp is how the bulk looks wrong in daylight. GSM on the style pages is the guide range for that style, not a promise that every future cloth in the world is stocked.

Questions on this guide

Is a higher GSM always better?

No. A heavier cloth lasts longer in abrasion and feels hotter. Match the cloth to the job, not to a single number.

Can you advise if I am unsure?

Yes. Say the job, the climate, and whether the crew kneels. We will propose a cloth with the sample.

Does the guide price include any cloth I name?

No. The cell is the cloth written on that style page. A different cloth is a new quote.
